Hey All,

This marks my first 'official' introduction to you guys 'face-to-face,' so to speak. I'm the new Project Director for Planescape: Torment, having taken over for Guido who has left the company. A quick FYI: I've been on the project from the beginning, having been the Line Producer. I've been fortunate enough to have been given the design of the spells from our resident Legend, Chris Avellone. And it is this subject that serves as the topic of my first update.

From the beginning, after having read the awesome story which Torment is based off of, I wanted to put together spells that would serve as the perfect complement: After all, a bad-ass story deserves bad-ass visuals. I wanted to have the visuals of our magic really seem 'magical,' to push the boundaries of traditional ideas, to impress and excite. And that served as the crux of my design.

Yet that was only the beginning. Chris Avellone lent the wisdom and helped shaped them, and from there the credit should also be given to my wingmen: Eric "XX Bay should die!" Campanella, our lead spell artist, Chris "Wu Tang" Jones, also a spell artist, and Rob "Shakespeare in motion" Holloway, our spell programmer. Without these guys, what you see in the game wouldn't have happened. Eric and Chris interpreted the words on paper and created beautiful art in motion, and Rob took all their wild and crazy ideas and made it possible and manipulated it in such ways as to create the final product.

So in the end, we hope that you enjoy your visit to Sigil, and that the magic of the Planes went beyond your belief and managed to delight, startle, tingle, singe, and stun.

Planescape Forever,

Ken Lee
